Let me put it all out there about The Barter System.
There are two very distinct “camps” when it comes to the book I’m most known for. The loved it group and the stupidest-book-ever-and-the-author-should-crawl-into-a-hole camp. You think I’m kidding. I’m certainly not.
Fortunately, I tend to get more positive feedback than negative. Those people who love it will fight for TBS to the very death. I heart those people. Those people who hate it…well, I try to avoid all their commentary. Let me address the two biggest negative comments I get:
Too much sex. This particular complaint makes me chuckle. First, I’ve read erotica with far more (bad) sex and zero plot. Riya’s dissertation is about male sexuality. I tried to make it PG but…no, I’m kidding. I knew from the first word it was going to be packed with sex. *snicker*
Riya hate. She’s been called a whore, a too-perfect angel who sprinkles fairy dust everywhere, and I’m inundated with comments that she knows too many different things. Dancing, cooking, motorcycle riding, etc. I based her hobbies off mine so…I don’t know what to tell you. The fact that not every woman hates her is also a big issue. This wasn’t about junior high drama and all adults were consenting. I chose to make the characters all grownups.
I hope you’ll give The Barter System a chance. That you’ll look past the sex to the story beneath because there is one. A good one that I love and truly enjoyed writing.
If you’re in the loved it camp…thanks!
